Dr Elizabeth Carabine is the Climate, Peace and Security Advisor to the UN Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to the Horn of Africa and leads the new United Nations Climate, Peace and Security Hub for the Horn of Africa. She advises the Special Political Mission in assessing and addressing climate-related political and security risks, coordinates the UN's regional strategy on sustainable natural resource management and climate resilience, and partners closely with IGAD and Member States on the climate, peace and security agenda. Elizabeth has 20 years of experience in research, policy and programming in climate adaptation and resilience, primarily in the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions. She has previously worked with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, World Resources Institute, Overseas Development Institute and International Livestock Research Institute.
