About

Melyn Abisa is a resourceful Kenyan-based environmentalist advocating for the sustainable use of forest resources and empowering local communities through environmental conservation and restoration. She holds a Bachlor's Degree in Project Planning and Management and has a research, Monitoring and Evaluation background.She is passionate about sesnsitising communities and fellow youth to best practices of Nature-based Solutions in restoring the biodiversity and authenticity of Africa's forest landscapes. In her role as the Urban Resilience officer at BigShip, she played an instrumental role in facilitating the restoration of 30ha of mangroves along Tudor Creek in Mombasa County, where she was part of the team that traimed 150+ community members on nursery establishment as an alternative source of livelihood while creating awareness on the importance of restoring and conserving mangroves for climate change mitigation and adaptation. She is the INUKA Project Co-coordinator, a Y4N NbS pilot project in Kenya, working with 5 youth groups in 5 diferent ecosystems to incorporate best NbS practices inimplementing their on-the ground projects to enhance biodiversity restoration and eventually scale-up the project across Africa with a vison for sustainable development. She wishes to inspire more youth to be environmental stewards and advocate for climate justice through her work.
